Unfortunately, the reality is that teachers in schools across the nation face the same threats as military personnel and law enforcement officers. The rise in school shootings and violence has led to a growing trend of teachers wearing body armor to protect themselves and their students. However, selecting the right body armor can be a daunting task. First and foremost, it is important to know the difference between the two most common types of body armor: soft armor and hard armor. In addition to the type and level of protection, it is important to consider the fit and sizing of the body armor. Body armor that is too loose or too tight can be uncomfortable and ineffective. Proper fit is especially important for women, who often have trouble finding body armor that fits well and provides adequate protection. It is recommended to work with a professional to ensure proper sizing and fit.

Finally, it is important to maintain and care for the body armor to ensure it remains effective. Soft armor should be replaced every 5 years, while hard armor should be replaced after any impact or every 10 years. Proper storage and maintenance can also extend the life of the armor and ensure it is effective when needed.

Protecting teachers in schools with body armor is a growing trend, but selecting the right body armor can be a complex decision. Factors such as type and level of protection, comfort and mobility, fit and sizing, and maintenance all need to be considered. Teachers must work with a professional to ensure that they are wearing the appropriate body armor that provides adequate protection while also allowing them to move freely and comfortably. By considering these factors, we can better protect our educators and students in the event of an emergency.
